Ronald is the friendly face that mans the print finishing area on the floor at Southport Printing Co. He is a long-term, loyal employee and has been with the company for over 25 years.
Ronald’s trade is in Letterpress, which is the old-school way of print finishing. This process uses led and pressure to apply various desired print finishes including embossing, debossing, die cutting and scoring.
Flat printed jobs arrive to Ronald’s area from either the offset or digital presses for Ronald to add his magic touch and apply the preferred finish for the customer.
Ronald has been a resident of Southport for over 20 years and during this time has made the short 20-minute walk to and from Southport Printing Co. thousands of times.
“I love everything about Southport and have enjoyed watching it grow and develop as a community over the years.” says Ronald “Everything that I need is within reach, which means that I have never had to own a car”
Ronald is a member at the local Surf Life Saving Club and is often seen there enjoying a beverage or two while taking in the amazing views of the Gold Coast beach. Ronald likes to watch all sports, but will never miss a West Coast or Gold Coast Suns AFL game. Over the years, Ronald has made numerous trips to the Gold Coast V8 Supercars through the streets of Surfers Paradise. Ronald hopes that one day the Indy cars will make a return to this high-profile and very entertaining event.
Ronald has a strong technical knowledge of everything relating to any print finish. He possesses a great understanding of how each of the processes work. Members of the Southport Printing Co. sales team often call upon Ronald to help with troubleshooting the best finish options to give customers fantastic results using more cost-effective techniques to create their desired outcome. In addition to this, it is not unusual to see factory staff seeking advice and support from Ronald for the same reasons. Ronald’s valuable knowledge is a key factor in the success of this department.
Ronald’s favourite machine is the Original Heidelberg Cylinder, which performs a variety of print finishing tasks including die cutting and scoring. “This machine is an absolute gem and they simply don’t make machines like this anymore. After many years of service, it continues to perform daily with little interruption”.
